Technique:Some other Jailbreak utilities use a "root file-system" device that provides a window to an arbitrary section of memory. This memory is not allocated or otherwise reserved by the operating system and hence will be used by other random processes in other random ways. Thus it will become more and more corrupted with every CPU clock cycle. It could cause the jailbreak binary to crash at random moments or cause random data to be written to flash. The Jailbreak utility that we use uses the same mechanism that Apple uses to send its update ramdisk. This memory is both allocated and reserved. It will not crash at random moments or gives you repeated BSD root errors. Longevity: Other jailbreaks focus on bugs in iBoot that can and will be fixed by Apple in the future. The Jailbreak utility that we use is an iBoot FEATURE that apple cannot remove without rewriting their own software. Even if Apple were to change their ENTIRE architecture it would be straight-forward to simply mimic what they do and adapt to it. Elegance: Other Jailbreak utilities modify existing Apple ramdisk and ship it as a complete set. The Jailbreak utility that we use contains original coding and features a very tiny bootstrapper that allows it to use libraries and code that's already on the iphone. Finally, other iPhone Jailbreaks are in direct violation of Binary copyright laws but it also takes up a significant portion of the ramdisk that could be used for other payloads. With that setup they would never be able to install a program like Cydia. An iPhone's maximum feasible ramdisk size is 32 MB; Cydia takes 13 and Apple's library takes up another significant amount. Even if those other jailbreaks could bring the memory usage below the 32 MB limit with the large number of files in a program like Cydia and the large area of corruptible memory, corruption would be inevitable.
